... IS NOT JUST A FOOD TREND!
There can be different reasons why choosing a vegan life.
Here we think is a perfect definition from "The Vegan Society":
"Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude - as far as is possible and practicable - all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals."
So be a part of our journey to a more compassionate and cruelty free live.
LET'S GO VEGAN FOR THE ANIMALS, OUR PLANET AND OUR HEALTH!
BUILDING OUR HIDDEN "PIRATE COVE"
Did you know that the color green stands for nature, balance, calmness, but can also help you to be more creative? And that the color blue can lower your heart rate and your blood pressure?
So it seems with this abundance of green and blue we can always stay calm and relaxed - maybe even during the construction phase. ;-)
The first steps are already done, we have our own well, a road to the building site and the soil study is done.
With the help of local architects Edgar, Marc and Esteban and their whole team from 180ªN we are so excited to build our dream house here in the beautiful south of Costa Rica and we can't wait to lie in our hammocks enjoying this view!
We want to build with as many natural materials as possible and are also trying to be sustainable, for example using a solar system, biogas, water from our own well and collecting rainwater.
Did you know that biogas is created by using your own poop? Yeah we know it sounds gross, but it isn't. :-)
And if that is not your thing you can also use organic waste!
PERMACULTURE "VEGAN STYLE"
How cool is it to grow your own food on your own land in the most sustainable way there is?
Being total newbies regarding planting, growing food, cultivate soil and land there is always something new to learn. And we are keen to learn!
There is a lot to know about catching rainwater and using it for irrigation, building ditches to steer the water and of course we will learn even more about all these wonderful, nutritional plants, trees and herbs that you can grow here in this country.
There are so many ways to live more earth-friendly.
We've always loved the Ocean and being in the water. For us scuba diving was the stepping stone to new adventures.
When we came in contact with the beautiful underwater world, it was also the starting point for "discovering" more sustainable topics like veganism, low-waste, conservation in general and especially the protection of marine life.
We already volunteered and worked with Sea Shepherd back in Austria and we have now just finished a documentary about a whale rescue that took place here in the South Pacific of Costa Rica. The NGO Innoceana was part of this rescue and we came together for this unique adventure.
Stay tuned for more information about this documentary!
Living in the Southern Pacific side of Costa Rica means living between the Ocean and the mountains.
Did you know that Costa Rica contains 5% of the world's biodiversity?
It is home to more than 900 different bird species and more than 500 species of mammals. 25% of the country is protected territory like national parks, marine parks, Nature Reserves and Wildlife Refuges.
One sanctuary that is close to us is the Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary who takes care of injured animals like monkeys, sloths, wild cats, birds, parrots, anteaters and many more species. The goal is - as far as possible - to rehabilitate and rewild all the rescued animals.
Together with them we had the chance to rewild a female anteater who is now roaming our land. Watch the video and read about it here.
We hope that we can help more animals in the future!
